How to Become a Christian
|
Becoming a true Christian is the most important moment of your life! Becoming a
Christian is more than joining a church or saying a prayer. It is a personal relationship
with God that will last for eternity.
When it comes to being a true follower of Christ, the Bible speaks for itself...
Jesus says ‘Follow Me’.
"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me" Luke 9:23
|
The Bible explains how to become a Christian in very simple terms:
- Realize that everyone has sinned and can not
live up to God's standard of holiness. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God."
- Understand that the penalty for our sin is death.
Romans 6:23 states: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
- Accept God's gift. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ,
to die for us, so we could be saved from death. Romans 5:8 says, "But God demonstrates
his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Spirit and Truth
Jesus says in John 4:24, "God is a spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." This means we need to worship with a reverent attitude (spirit), and with the correct beliefs about God (the truth).
Showing Real Love
To be a real follower of Christ, you must show real love, just as Jesus showed us.
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples. If you have love for one another" John 13;34-35
Living The Way
Not only does being Christian mean that you love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and might, but that you show through your actions and good works that God is the number one priority in your life.
"Give generously, be humble, help your brother and be a peace-maker. Honour everyone, love the brotherhood, fear God." 1 Peter 2:17
"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained form the world." James 1:27
Everlasting Life!
Once you discover how to become a Christian and are baptised into Christ, the Bible
says that you can be sure that you will have eternal life in God’s Kingdom. 1 John
5:11-13 says,
"And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this
life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son
of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of
the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."
Do you know for sure that you will spend eternal life with God? If not, this is
a decision you don't want to put off.
