Merry Christmas!

A Short History of Our Group

On the Sunday Morning of March 31st 1968 a small group of people gathered for worship in the Progress Association Hall , Khartoum St Gordon Park. It was the beginning of “The Kedron Book Christadelphian Ecclesia”. For just over nine years after that date a Sunday School was held before the morning meeting while lectures were held on biblical topics in the evening all in that hall. Special events like Study week ends, musical evenings and Sunday School break-up parties were also held there. Mid-week activities, however, such as bible classes were held in the homes of members.

It was always the aim of the group eventually to own a meeting place rather than to rely on the rental of premises with its associated uncertainties. Quite early on a pair of church halls were offered for sale as a unit. This aroused considerable interest among members. Nevertheless no purchase was made. Funds, however, were being raised and other activities related to building continued such as the purchase of a block of land in the general district.

With the march of time, the accumulation of small changes in some cases began to loom large. Members came and went, but overall more were leaving than joining. Early on, membership grew to 48. This was not to be exceeded for many years. Towards the end of 1974, several active families gave notice of their imminent resignation from the group. Some wondered whether we could continue. Nevertheless a special meeting resolved to make the effort to do so.

There was a notable development in mid 1976. A large church hall in Pullford St West Chermside became available for purchase. The vendors wanted to retain possession for a year. This was agreed to It was quite an undertaking for the small membership of 20 and there were many fundraising activities engaged in for some years to come all related to the financial side of this undertaking. Nevertheless other activities became feasible such as the regular presentation of biblical plays for a general (interested) audience and many others.
